Hello! My name is Mr. Tyler Lisowski (or Mr. L). I am excited to begin the 2010-2011 school year as the new Community Based Transition Program teacher at the Vanderbilt Center Building. Below is some information about my background:
I graduated from Millersville University in Pennsylvania in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. While at Millersville, I was involved in several organizations, which provided me with valuable experience. I was matched in a one-to-one friendship through Best Buddies Colleges at Millersville University and served as an officer in the chapter from 2006-2008. Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for people with and without disabilities to form friendships.
In February 2006, I began working for United Support Group, a non-profit organization based in Lancaster, PA, which provides social and recreational activities for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. In 2007 and 2008, I spent the summer months working at Camp Optimist, a youth summer day camp. I served as Assistant Director of the camp in 2008. In 2008, I also served as co-advisor for the Lancaster County, PA chapter of Speaking for Ourselves, a self-advocacy group for people with disabilities. From January 2009 until June 2010 I managed 18 middle and high schools chapters of Best Buddies in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area.
